The Finnish diplomatic and consular missions abroad and the Unit for Consular Assistance in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs assist Finnish nationals in distress abroad.

The missions provide assistance and advice and act as intermediaries in matters that fall under the competence of missions.

The Unit for Consular Assistance in Helsinki takes care of matters related to the provision of assistance at home. The Unit for Passports and Visas in Helsinki takes care of legalisation of documents by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
