In search of the truth: the role of media in conflicts
“Independence, in-depth analysis and courage are the keys to good conflict reporting,” said Mr Wadah Khanfar, Director General of the Al-Jazeera Network at the SuomiAreena event. Mr Khanfar was attending a panel together with President Ahtisaari and Janne Virkkunen, Chairman of the International Press Institute, to discuss the role of the media in conflict situations. The panel had been convened at the invitation of Foreign Minister Stubb.

Iran and Kosovo top the Foreign Affairs Council’s agenda
The European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council and General Affairs Council convened in Brussels on Monday, 26 July. These were the last Councils of Ministers meetings before the summer break, and the agenda items generating the most discussion and debate on the day were the EU’s Iran sanctions and the Western Balkans. Finland was represented at the Councils by Permanent Representative Jan Store.
