Guidance for mediation ready at hand – what should a mediator take account of?
The UN Guidance for Effective Mediation is part of the concrete results of the mediation initiative taken by Finland and Turkey. "The actual value of this guidance will be measured in the field," said Foreign Minister Tuomioja, when launching the Finnish translation of the document.
Organizations hope for a human rights oriented policy from the government
The Government, under the leadership of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, is preparing a human rights report for submission to Parliament in autumn 2014. Foreign Minister Tuomioja presented the departure points for the report. He considers it important that there is the know-how to apply the recommendations made by bodies monitoring international treaties, and that these recommendations are interpreted in a way positive to human rights.
