Track opened for Ashton and the EU foreign policy at Saariselkä

Photo: Eero Kuosmanen.Led by Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb, a new approach to building the EU common foreign policy was taken during the weekend. The eight foreign ministers who came to Saariselkä, Finnish Lapland, had the opportunity for once to delve into important themes without constant time pressure or unnecessary formalities. Throughout the weekend Catherine Ashton, the new EU Foreign Minister, played the key role. She received strong support from the participants.

The answer is yes, and many Finns already have, in a wide variety of places abroad and in Finland; perhaps even on the internet soon. What benefits are there in meeting an ambassador? The benefits include assistance, advice and information about the services provided by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic missions. It is important for the Ministry, for its part, to get direct feedback from citizens.
