EU and Jordan discussed Middle East
The EU -Jordan Association Council had its meeting in Brussels on November 14. Most part of the session focused on the international situation, especially the Middle East Peace Process and Israeli-Palestinian relations, Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja, President of the Council for General Affairs and External Relations told a press conference after the meeting. The EU appreciates Jordan as a crucial partner among the group of Arab countries that are committed to looking for constructive solutions. In this sense the EU and Jordan have a shared agenda. The situation in Lebanon is also important, but a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is essential for the stability of the whole region, Tuomioja said. There is a need for concrete process leading to a two state solution.
The meeting also discussed the EU-Jordan bilateral relationship, Jordan´s reform agenda, future cooperation and the European Neighbourhood Policy. A special emphasis was given to the Barcelona Process and the Euromed Foreign Ministers´Conference to be held in Finland, Tampere on November 27-28.
