Pauli Mäkelä appointed Ambassador to Rome
The President of the Republic appointed today Pauli Mäkelä, Counsellor of Foreign Affairs, as Finland's Ambassador to Italy as of 15 June, 2006.
Mäkelä, who is currently Head of Mission in the Consulate General of Finland in Hong Kong, has served the Ministry for Foreign Affairs since 1979. He has worked in the Departments of Development Policy and Europe among others. The years 1998-2002 he was Director of the Unit for Western Europe in the Europe Division. Mäkelä has been posted to Finnish Missions in Marseilles, Brussels, Caracas and Paris. He has also worked as Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Finland in Rome in 1995-1998. Before joining the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Mäkelä worked in Italy on several occasions.
