Pia Stjernvall appointed to Ambassador of Finland to Kosovo, side-accreditations to Libya and Venezuela
The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Pia Stjernvall to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Pristina, Kosovo, starting from 1 February 2018.
Pia Stjernvall works as Senior Adviser for civilian crisis management until the transfer to Pristina. Stjernvall served as Deputy Head of Mission of EUPOL Afghanistan (European Union Police Mission in Afghanistan) from June 2014 until she was appointed Head of the Mission in 2015 and 2016.
In the diplomatic service, she has held positions in Kabul, Nairobi and Budapest. At the Ministry, Stjernvall has worked in the Political Department, in the Department for Development Policy, and in the Department for Europe.
Stjernvall joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1995. She holds the degree of Master of Social Sciences from the University of Lapland.
In addition, the President of the Republic authorised Ambassador Leena Gardemeister, Head of the Mission of Finland in Tunis, to represent Finland also in Libya, and Ambassador Jarmo Kuuttila, Head of the Embassy of Finland in Bogotá, to represent Finland also in Venezuela from 15 December 2017.
This means that Ambassador Mika-Markus Leinonen, Head of the Mission of Finland in Santiago de Chile, will no longer represent Finland in Venezuela.
