Advance voting abroad in the Finnish presidential election

Advance voting abroad in the first round of the Finnish presidential election will be conducted from 17 to 20 January 2018.  If a second round will be organised, the advance voting period will be from 31 January to 3 February 2018. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is responsible for the organisation of advance voting abroad.

The Finnish diplomatic and consular missions and their offices in 89 different countries will serve as advance polling stations. A total of 242 advance polling stations will be open.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is responsible for the organisation of advance voting in Finland’s diplomatic or consular missions and offices abroad as well as on board Finnish ships sailing outside the Finnish territory during the advance voting period.

The Ministry of Justice, which is the highest election authority in Finland, carries the overall responsibility for the conduct of the election. The Ministry of Justice has published a list of the advance polling stations and their opening hours on its website at vaalit.fi.

All those who are entitled to vote may cast their vote in advance at the general advance polling stations in Finland or abroad. On board Finnish ships, only the crew members who are entitled to vote may cast their vote in advance.

More information about advance voting can be found on the website of the Ministry of Justice vaalit.fi and on the websites of Finland’s missions abroad
