The Academy of Finland and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will fund development research projects with a total of EUR 6 million within the framework of a renewed Academy Programme for Development Research.
The call for applications to the programme will open on 1 September 2017. The programme will provide funding for four-year research projects.
The Academy Programme for Development Research will provide funding for multidisciplinary, problem-based research that targets global development issues and helps boost the economic, social and ecological development in developing countries by making good use of Finnish knowledge and expertise. The programme seeks to promote the achievement of the goals set in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Academy Programme aims to establish cooperation between Finland and developing countries and to strengthen research in developing countries. Projects approved for funding are expected to work in genuine cooperation with researchers based in developing countries.
The programme coordination to be carried out by the Academy of Finland aims to promote a better utilisation of the research data produced within the programme. The projects approved for funding will act in close cooperation with each other for the entire four-year programme period.
