Ministry for Foreign Affairs presents its latest materials at Educa expo
The Educa expo for the education and training sector in Finland will be held in the Messukeskus Expo and Convention Centre in Helsinki on Friday and Saturday, 27–28 January 2017. Internationally awarded Palestinian teacher Hanan Al Hroub will visit the Foreign Ministry’s stand on Saturday.
Europe Information and the Unit for Development Communications will present their most recent publications suitable for education purposes at stand 6n48.
Europe Information will distribute the Finnish and Swedish editions of the newly updated Europe 2017 map, EU Member States bookmarks, and Arctic Variety, a book published in Finnish, Swedish, English and North Saami.
The Unit for Development Communications will provide information and materials related to the global sustainable development goals (SDGs), suitable for schools.
Palesinian teacher's motto: No to violence!
Palestinian teacher Hanan Al Hroub will meet visitors at the Foreign Ministry’s stand on Saturday at 14.45–15.05. Last year, Al Hroub received the Global Teacher Prize award, granted by the Varkey Foundation.
As a teacher, she tries to promote non-violence in schools. Hanan herself grew up in a Palestinian refugee camp. The award-winning teacher will arrive in Finland for the weekend at the invitation of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Finland has supported the Palestinian Authority’s education sector for 20 years. Finland also supports the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which provides basic education and health care to refugees in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel’s neighbouring countries.
New posters featuring the development goals
The Ministry’s Unit for Development Communications will distribute posters and other materials related to the UN’s SDGs. Last autumn, all Finnish comprehensive schools received four posters, illustrated by Matti Pikkujämsä, the graphic designer.
The series was complemented by two new posters at the turn of the year and these will be available at the Educa expo and at the Opi conference in Oulu on 3–4 February. The posters can be ordered free of charge from the ministry's Publication Services.
The Foreign Ministry has participated in the Educa expo for over ten years. In the recent years, the expo has gathered about 14,000 education and training professionals.
This year, the Foreign Ministry will take part in the Opi conference in Oulu on 3–4 February, too.
