Strengthening Civil Society Engagement in Political Dialogue and Statebuilding Processes - Interim South West Administration and Banadir

Description

The overall objective in this project is to contribute towards strengthening Somali civil society’s capacity to effectively engage with government on peace and state building processes to support the implementation of the Somali Impact and PSG’s 1, 2, 3. Specific objective is to increase visibility, voice and cohesive participation of Somali civil society to support the implementation of the Federal Constitution in Interim South West Administration (ISWA) and Banadir regions. The project is estimated to have following results: - Improved civic education/knowledge/advocacy capabilities for 120 CSO/community leaders/ 400 community members and coordinated engagement activities with government on federal constitution implementation/finalization; - Improved mechanisms to support & enable civic engagement in relation to the finalization of the federal constitution; - Women/youth and marginalized groups at the community level have improved civic knowledge and are able to participate in constitutional finalization processes. To achieve these results the project has many activities including CSO advocacy sessions on civic education, joint CSO/government forums, community level awareness sessions on peace/state building processes and constitutional reform and media campaign to raise awareness of constitutional and state building processes. Target groups of this project are 120 CSO leaders (67 already existing), 200 community leaders (including 50 women, 50 youth, 50 traditional/religious/clan leaders), 400 community members (100 per target area include women, youth, minority clans), federal, ISWA and local administrations (at least 3 per region). Final beneficiaries are traditional and clan elders, women and youth, CSO professionals, 200 youth groups, business community, local security companies. The communities benefiting from the project have combined population of 1.65 million people. Co-applicants of this project are Centre for Research and Dialogue and IIDA Women’s Development Organisation. Both co-applicants are local NGOs.
