At the presidential session on 12 August 2016, the President of the Republic decided to appoint a new Head of Mission to India and a new Roving Ambassador for Armenia. They will assume their functions on 1 September 2016.
Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Nina Vaskunlahti was appointed to serve as Head of the Finnish Mission in New Delhi.
Vaskunlahti will transfer to New Delhi from Ankara, where she has served as the Ambassador of Finland since 2012.
Before that she has worked, for example, as Director General of the Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia and as Deputy Permanent Representative to Coreper I at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU.
Vaskunlahti joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1984.
Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Arja Makkonen was appointed to serve as a Roving Ambassador based at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Her title will be Roving Ambassador for Armenia. Makkonen served as Head of the Finnish Embassy in Kiev from 2011 to 2015.
She has also worked, among other things, at the Embassy of Finland in Moscow and in Warsaw, and as Adviser to the Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade.
Makkonen joined the Foreign Ministry in 1989.
