New Ambassadors to Addis Ababa, Ottawa and Vienna
At the presidential session on Friday 4 March, the President of the Republic decided to appoint the following new Ambassadors. They will assume their functions on 1 September 2016.
Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Helena Airaksinen was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Airaksinen will transfer to Ethiopia from the Department for Africa and the Middle East, where she serves as Director of the Unit for Eastern and Western Africa.
She has held several positions in the Department for Africa and the Middle East and in the Department for Development Policy.
Airaksinen joined the Foreign Ministry in 1990.
Before that, she served as Junior Professional Officer in Ethiopia.
Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Vesa Lehtonen was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Ottawa, Canada.
During his career in the Ministry, Lehtonen has served, among other things, as Deputy Director General for Personnel and as Director of Personnel Planning.
In the Diplomatic Service, he has served in the Embassies of Finland in Rome and Stockholm.
Lehtonen joined the Foreign Ministry in 1995.
Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Hannu Kyröläinen was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Vienna, Austria.
Kyröläinen will transfer to Austria from a Senior Adviser position specialising in comprehensive foreign and security policy questions.
In the Ministry, Kyröläinen has held, for example, the positions of Director General and Deputy Director General.
In the Diplomatic Service, he has worked, for example, in New York and in Prague where he has served as Head of the Embassy of Finland.
Kyröläinen joined the Foreign Ministry in 1982.
