27 November 2015
Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Lenita Toivakka will take part in the UN Climate Change Conference, which is organised in Paris on 30 November–11 December 2015. The Conference of the Parties (COP21) is to agree about a new universal climate convention. The Finnish delegation will be led by President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö.
"Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. However, despite this grim picture, it is good to remember that there already exist technological and other solutions for this problem that are paving the way towards a low-carbon society. In this sense, Finnish expertise has a lot to offer," Minister Toivakka emphasizes.
Minister Toivakka will attend the first day of the Conference on Monday 30 November, which is for invited Heads of State and Government, and Tuesday 1 December. The Minister will speak at a side-event focusing on gender equality and combat against climate change as well as another one on mitigation of climate change. The Minister will also speak at a side-event organised by the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, which will present a survey of various responses to climate change.
