Press release 118/2015
29 April 2015
The Embassy of Finland in Kathmandu has set up a temporary consular service point at the Tribhuvan International Airport. The joint Nordic consular service point offers information and advice and helps those in need of assistance as required.
The service point is situated in front of the door to the departures lounge and can be identified from the flag of Finland and yellow uniforms.
Finnish citizens in need of assistance can find and check the most recent information on the Embassy's Facebook. The Facebook page also serves as a source of contact details of Finns in the region and information about the situation in various areas.
Finnish citizens in need of emergency shelter have been provided with tents in the Embassy building yard from Sunday onward. Accommodation in the tents is still possible. Finns can also visit the Embassy in Bishalnagar in order to have a rest, freshen up or charge their mobile.
Exit from Nepal is possible on commercial flights and by road to India. There are plenty of those willing to get onboard planes and busses, which is why it is advisable to be prepared for waiting and to be patient. The Embassy cannot pay the travel costs but the staff will help in arrangements as required and to the best of their ability.
A consular rapid response team, sent by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs from Helsinki, arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The group of three persons is to support the mission staff in the assistance of Finnish citizens.
In case of an emergency, please phone the 24/7 service on +358 9 160 55551.
