FINBOL; Improved Capacity to Provide Services for Disaster Risk Reduction and Adaptation to Climate Change

The National Meteorological and Hydrological Service of Bolivia, SENAMHI, is a governing body and international focal point with regard to meteorology, climatology, hydrology, agrometeorology and related activities in Bolivia. It operates under the Ministry of Environment and Water. SENAMHI is tasked to provide specialized services to contribute to the sustainable development of the Bolivian State, particularly by maintaining hydrometeorological monitoring systems and contributing to civil protection against natural disasters. As a member of the World Meteorological Organization WMO it also has international commitments in generating and facilitating the exchange of essential meteorological and hydrological data and products to feed the global systems. The institutional cooperation's overall objective is that Bolivian society is better prepared and able to manage risks related to hydrometeorological hazards and adverse impacts of climate variability and change. The main purpose of the project is Improved Capacity of SENAMHI to Provide Services for Disaster Risk Reduction and Adaptation to Climate Change. The project beneficiaries are the INAMHI staff whose capacity and know-how is strengthened. Other beneficiaries include different economic sectors of society e.g. agriculture, tourism, transportation, water management and public administration. The availability of enhanced, reliable and accessible weather services benefits the local population and their livelihoods and living conditions as well as resilience against climate induced risks. The implementing parties are Finnish Meteorological Institute and The National Meteorological and Hydrological Service of Bolivia, SENAMHI. The duration of the project is three years (2014-2016) and budget 500 000 Euros.
