New Ambassador appointed to France, new side accreditations to Cambodia, El Salvador and Panama
The President of the Republic decided on 30 August to appoint Counsellor of Foreign Affairs Risto Piipponen to the post of Head of the Embassy of Finland in Paris, France, as of 1 October 2013.
Piipponen will transfer to France from the position of Director General of the Department for Africa and the Middle East, which he has held since September 2012. At the Ministry for Foreign Affairs he has previously served as Head of the Unit for General EU Affairs and Coordination in the Division for Europe and at the Ministry’s EU Secretariat, the Department for International Development Cooperation, and the Department for External Economic Relations.
Piipponen has also been the Ambassador of Finland to Canada and Cyprus. In the Diplomatic Service he has worked in the Embassies of Finland in France, Algeria, Australia and at the Finnish EU Mission in Brussels.
In 1992–1994 Piipponen served at the EFTA Secretariat and the EFTA Surveillance Authority in Geneva and Brussels.
Piipponen joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1987.
The President of the Republic granted side accreditation to Kirsti Westphalen, Head of the Embassy of Finland in Thailand, to also represent Finland in Cambodia; and to Anne Lammila, Head of the Embassy of Finland in Mexico, to also represent Finland in El Salvador and Panama.
