New Ambassadors appointed
The President of the Republic decided on 9 August to appoint Counsellor of Foreign Affairs Seija Toro to the post of Head of the Embassy of Finland in Maputo, Mozambique, as of 1 November 2013. Ms Toro will be moving to Maputo from Cuba, where she has been working as UNICEF Country Director since October 2012.
In 2007–2012 Ms Toro served as UNICEF Country Director in Costa Rica. At the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, she has previously worked both at the Department for Africa and the Middle East and at the Department for Development Policy. During Finland’s EU Presidency she worked at the Finnish Permanent Representation to the United Nations in New York, and she has also worked at the Finnish embassies in Rome and Lusaka. Furthermore Ms Toro has served on the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Development Bank. Her international experience additionally includes positions with the European Commission.
Ms Toro joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1989.
The President of the Republic granted side accreditation to the following ambassadors:
Ambassador Pasi Patokallio, Head of the Embassy of Finland in Canberra, Australia, to also represent Finland in Papua New Guinea.
Ambassador Aapo Pölhö, Head of the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi, India, to also represent Finland in Bangladesh.
Ambassador Roberto Tanzi-Albi, appointed as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Madrid, Spain, as of 1 September 2013, to also represent Finland in Andorra.
Furthermore the President of the Republic mandated Counsellor of Foreign Affairs Niklas Lindqvist, posted at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, to also serve as Roving Ambassador for Tajikistan.
