New Ambassadors to Egypt, Portugal, Spain and Georgia

The President of the Republic decided on the following appointments of new ambassadors on January 15:

Tuula Yrjölä. Photo: MFACounsellor for Foreign Affairs Tuula Yrjölä to the post of Head of the Embassy of Finland in Cairo, Egypt as from 1 September 2013.

Yrjölä currently serves as Roving Ambassador for Central Asia based at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Her ambassadorship encompasses Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. In the Diplomatic Service, she has previously worked at the Embassy in Kiev and the Consulate General in New York.

In the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Yrjölä has served as Head of the Unit for Eastern Europe and Central Asia as well as in various positions in the Department for Russia, the Department for Europe and the Department for Communications and Culture.

Roberto Tanzi-Albi. Photo: MFACounsellor for Foreign Affairs Roberto Tanzi-Albi to the post of Head of the Embassy of Finland in Madrid, Spain as from 1 September 2013.

Tanzi-Albi transfers to Madrid from Cairo, where he has been Ambassador since 2009. He has worked as Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Finland in Tallinn and has held different positions in Paris, Washington, Riyadh and Mexico.

In the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Tanzi-Albi has worked in various positions in the Political Department, and he has also served as Director of the Unit for Europe Information and as Director of the Information Unit at the Department for Communications and Culture.

Tanzi-Albi joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1984.

Outi Holopainen. Photo: MFACounsellor for Foreign Affairs Outi Holopainen to the post of Head of the Embassy of Finland in Lisbon, Portugal as from 1 September 2013.

Holopainen now works as Head of the Unit for Security Policy and Crisis Management. In the past she has worked as Head of the Unit for Arms Control and in other positions at the Political Department. She also has experience of working in the Administrative Department. Holopainen has served in diplomatic missions in Bonn and Stockholm.

She began working at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1988.

Christer Michelsson. Photo: MFACounsellor for Foreign Affairs Christer Michelsson to the post of Roving Ambassador for Georgia, based at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, as from 20 February 2013.

Michelson is currently responsible for the development of the Ministry’s Consular Services. At the Ministry for Foreign Affairs he has also worked in the Administrative Department, the Department for Trade Policy and the Political Department, as well as the Ministry’s EU Secretariat. Michelsson has served as Head of the Personnel Planning Unit.

At Finnish diplomatic missions abroad, Michelsson has worked earlier as Ambassador to Kiev and as a Minister in Moscow; he has also worked in various capacities in Madrid, Bonn and Beijing.

Michelsson came to work at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1986.
