The Government proposes a new ambassador to Ljubljana

On Thursday 25 August, the Government decided to propose to the President of the Republic the appointment of Mr Pekka Metso, Counsellor for Foreign Affairs, as Head of the Finnish Embassy in Ljubljana, Slovenia, as from 1 November 2011. The President of the Republic will decide about the appointment in the presidential session on 26 August.
Metso will move to Ljubljana from the Permanent Mission of Finland in Geneva, Switzerland, where he has served as Deputy Permanent Representative since 2007. He joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1987 and has worked in the Political Department, Department for Development Cooperation, Department for Press and Culture, and Department for the Americas and Asia. In 2002-07 he served as Head of the Unit for Asia and Aceania at the Department for the Americas and Asia. Besides Geneva, Metso’s diplomatic career includes postings to the Finnish Mission to the UN in New York and to the Finnish embassies in Oslo and Warsaw.
