The Foreign Ministers had already met early in the morning at the gym of Hotel Kalastajatorppa. “Because of the icy conditions, we thought it would be safer today to run indoors,” the ministers said. Minister Dzurinda invited Minister Stubb to come next to Slovakia to participate in the local marathon.

After their luncheon meeting, the ministers stated that their bilateral talks had taken place in a good atmosphere. They had discussed bilateral relations between Finland and Slovakia as well as topical European issues, such as the European Union’s enlargement, the External Action Service, Eastern partnerships and the situation in Belarus.

Foreign Minister Dzurinda commended Finland’s expertise in many sectors, indicated by the country’s success in various international comparisons, such as the PISA student assessments. Minister Dzurinda said that Slovakia would have use for Finnish know-how in development of Slovakia’s education system, in research and development and in innovation work. The minister valued the excellent cooperation he has had with Foreign Minister Stubb and hoped that this would continue in future as well.

During his visit to Finland, Foreign Minister Dzurinda also met with Sauli Niinistö, Speaker of the Finnish Parliament.
