New Ambassadors to Stockholm, Athens, Reykjavik and the Permanent Representation of Finland to the Council of Europe
The President of the Republic appointed on the 30 December the following persons as Ambassadors:
Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Harry Helenius as Head of the Finnish Embassy in Stockholm as from 15 March 2011.
Helenius will move to Stockholm from Berlin where he has served as the Finnish Ambassador since 2008. He entered the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1973. In the Ministry, Helenius has worked as Secretary General of the Commission for Scientific and Technical Co-operation between Finland and the USSR, as Director of the Unit for Russia and Central and Eastern Europe in the Political Department, as Head of the Division for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and as Director General of the Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. In addition to Berlin, his diplomatic career includes postings to the Embassy in Madrid, the Mission to the CSCE Follow-up Meeting in Vienna, the Embassy in Moscow - where he has served twice - and the Embassy in Stockholm and Consulate General in St. Petersburg.
Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Pekka Lintu as Head of the Finnish Embassy in Athens as from 1 September 2011.
Lintu will move to Athens from Washington where he has served as the Ambassador since 2006. Since 1972, Lintu has worked mainly in the field of External Economic Relations, among others in the Permanent Missions to Geneva and in the Permanent Delegation to the OECD. At the ministry he has held positions in the Department for Development Cooperation and the Department for External Economic Relations, where he was Deputy Director General from 1991 to 1994. Lintu was Ambassador to Japan from 1994 to 2000 and Under Secretary of State for External Economic Relations from 2001 to 2006.
Counsellor Irma Ertman as Head of the Finnish Embassy in Reykjavik as from 1 September 2011.
Ertman has served as head of the Permanent Representation of Finland to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg since 2007. Ertman came to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1974 and has served in several positions at the ministry's Legal Department, as Assistant Secretary General of the Finnish-Soviet Commission on Economic Cooperation, as Deputy Director General of the Protocol Department and as Inspector-General of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. From 2003 to 2007 she was the Director General of the Legal Department. Ertman has also served at the Consulate General in Leningrad and as Consul General in Gothenburg.
Counsellor Pekka Hyvönen as Head of the Permanent Representation of Finland to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg as from 1 September 2011.
Hyvönen has served as the Finnish Ambassador in Hanoi since 2007. He joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1986. He has held various positions in the Legal and Political Departments and the Department for the Americas and Asia. From 2000 to 2007 he was the Director of the Unit for Consular Services of the Legal Department. In addition to Hanoi, Hyvönen's career in the Finnish diplomatic service comprises postings in France, Iran, Australia and the Finnish Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
