Jarno Syrjälä appointed Ambassador to Riyadh
The President of the Republic appointed on the 4 June the following new Ambassador:
Counsellor of Foreign Affairs Jarno Syrjälä to the post of Head of the Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as from 1 September 2010.
Jarno Syrjälä transfers to Riyadh from the Embassy of Finland in Berlin, where he has served as Minister since 2007. Before his appointment to Berlin, Syrjälä worked at the Political Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, as Head of the Unit for European Common Foreign and Security Policy in 2005–2007. In addition to the Political Department, Jarno Syrjälä has worked in the Ministry at the Department for Africa and the Middle East. As to the Finnish diplomatic missions abroad, he has served at the Embassy of Finland in Berlin, Washington, Tel Aviv and Jakarta as well as at the Representative Office of Finland in Ramallah. Syrjälä came to the employ of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1990.
