Foreign Minister Stubb to attend the EU–LAC Summit in Madrid

The European Union and Latin American and Caribbean countries will convene for the VI EU–LAC Summit, to be held in Madrid on 17–18 May. President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will represent Finland at the Summit.
This is the first Summit between the EU and third countries to take place since the Lisbon Treaty entered into force.
The special theme of this Summit is support for science, technology and innovation. The other topics of discussion are the financial crisis and climate change.
In the margins of the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the EU–LAC Summit, Foreign Minister Stubb will hold separate discussions with his colleagues from the region. Foreign Minister Stubb will have talks with, among others, the Foreign Ministers of Chile, Columbia, Cuba, Paraguay and Uruguay. During these talks the Foreign Ministers will discuss topical international affairs and bilateral relations.
