Jukka Pietikäinen Ambassador to Buenos Aires
The President of the Republic appointed today, 12 September, Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Jukka Pietikäinen to serve as Head of the Finnish Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as from 1 November 2008.
Since 2007, Pietikäinen has served the Ministry for Foreign Affairs as Head of the Unit for Latin America and the Caribbean. Prior to this, from 2003 to 2007, he served as Minister-Counsellor in the Finnish Embassy in Mexico.
Pietikäinen entered the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1984. In addition to the Department for the Americas and Asia, he has served in the Department for External Economic Relations, the Political Department, the Department for Europe, and the Department for Communications and Culture. Prior to his posting to Mexico, Pietikäinen's diplomatic service had taken him to the Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, and to the Finnish Embassies in Vienna, Bogotá, Bern and Madrid.
In the years from 1991 to 1993, Pietikäinen served in the Field Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNDCP, in Colombia.
