New Heads of Mission to be appointed to the Representation to the European Union and Warsaw, Geneva and Bratislava

The President of the Republic appointed today on the 29th of  February, the following new ambassadors:

Jan StoreCounsellor for Foreign Affairs Jan Store as Head of Finland's Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels as from 1 July 2008.

Store has been serving as Ambassador of Finland in Warsaw since 2004. He entered the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1978 and has served at the Permanent Delegation of Finland to the OECD in Paris and at the Finnish Representation to EFTA in Geneva. He has acted as Deputy Representative of Finland to the EC in Brussels and, later, held the post of Minister, and acted as Deputy Permanent Representative of Finland to the European Union. At the Ministry, he has worked for the Departments for International Development Cooperation and External Economic Relations. As from 2001, he had occupied the post of Deputy Director General of the Unit for Europe and came to serve as its Director General when it became the Department for Europe.

Vesa HimanenCounsellor for Foreign Affairs Vesa Himanen as Head of the Finnish Embassy in Warsaw as from 1 September 2008.

Vesa Himanen has been serving as the Permanent Representative of Finland to the UN in Geneva since 2003. Himanen entered the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1978, and he has served at the Embassies of Paris and Copenhagen, the Permanent Delegation of Finland to the OECD and the Permanent Mission of Finland in Geneva. At the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, at the Department for External Economic Relations, he has served as Deputy Director General for multilateral trade policy and occupied the post of Deputy Director General of the Department.

Hannu HimanenCounsellor for Foreign Affairs Hannu Himanen as Head of the Permanent Mission of Finland in Geneva as from 1 September 2008.

At the moment, Hannu Himanen is serving as the Under-Secretary of State in charge of Administrative Affairs of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, a post that he has occupied since 2003. Himanen entered the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1976, and he has served at the Finnish Embassy in New Delhi, Finland's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, the Finnish Embassy in Moscow, the Delegation at the CSCE in Vienna and as Ambassador of Finland in Jakarta. At the Ministry, he has served, i.a., as Director for Cultural Affairs of the Department for Press and Culture,  Director for the European Union and Western Countries of the Department for Political Affairs, Deputy Director General for Africa and the Middle East, and the Unit for Policy Planning and Research of the Department. Hannu Himanen has also held a fellowship at Harvard University and served as President for Security and Governance at the EastWEst Institute of Prague Center. 

Jukka LeinoCounsellor for Foreign Affairs Jukka Leino as Head of the Finnish Embassy in Bratislava as from 1 September 2008.

Leino entered the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1974, and he has worked for the Administrative and Political Departments as well as the Press and Culture Department. Currently, he is attached to the Helsinki Process at the Department for Global Affairs. As to working for Finnish missions abroad, he has served at Finland's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, and the Finnish Embassies of Moscow, Belgrade and London. He has served as Ambassador at the Diplomatic Mission in Singapore and held the post of Consul General of Finland in New York.
