Foreign Minister Valtonen to meet Austria’s Foreign Minister and representatives of international organisations in Vienna

Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit Vienna on 8–9 February 2024. She will meet Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and leaders of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). Minister Valtonen will also give a speech at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

The foreign ministers will discuss current foreign and security policy affairs, Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, the Middle East, irregular migration, the EU’s enlargement, and bilateral matters.

“Finland and Austria have good cooperation on foreign and security policy, and we are actively developing our relations. We have many common interests to promote, and they need to be discussed. Vienna provides an ideal setting for the discussions, as several international organisations are based in the city,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Valtonen.

Finland is a long-term supporter of the IAEA’s work for nuclear safety.

“We consider it important that the IAEA continue its efforts to ensure nuclear security in Ukraine,” says Minister Valtonen.
