Ambassador to Tehran, non-resident Ambassador to New Zealand and authorisation of Roving Ambassador based at Ministry for Foreign Affairs

At its session on 7 March, the Government appointed Counsellor Jani Raappana as Counsellor for Foreign Affairs as of 1 May 2024. The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Jani Raappana to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Tehran, starting on 1 May 2024.

Jani Raappana is currently working on special assignment at the Foreign Ministry's Department for Africa and the Middle East. Raappana served as Director of Foreign and Security Policy at the Office of the President of the Republic in 2023–2024, as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Washington in 2019–2023, as Special Adviser to the Prime Minister in 2017–2019 and as Team Leader for Chinese political affairs at the Foreign Ministry’s Department for the Americas and Asia in 2016–2017. He has served at the Embassies of Finland in Beijing, Tel Aviv and Vienna.

Raappana joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2004. He holds the degree of Master of Social Sciences.

The President of the Republic authorises Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Pertti Ikonen, Roving Ambassador for the Caribbean based at the Ministry, to represent Finland in Grenada.

The President of the Republic appoints Ambassador Arto Haapea, Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Canberra, to serve as a non-resident Ambassador to New Zealand.
